Bowen sees squad ready to hit back on Sunday

City are ready to put the midweek Carling Cup disappointment behind them when they take on Wigan this Sunday.

That’s the opinion of the Blues assistant manager Mark Bowen, who has explained to mcfc.co.uk that those who did not start at the Withdean Stadium have all been pressing their cases for inclusion in training since the trip to the south coast.

“It’s a challenge to get people back ‘up’ after a defeat like that. In the situation in midweek we had a team with five or six changes from Portsmouth, and training on Friday saw a few players from then coming back into the group after having Thursday off.

“The lads who played the full two hours had a warm-down day on Friday, so Saturday sees the whole squad together with Robinho and the lads who did not play or make the bench at Brighton.

“The players, probably better than the staff, put a result like that behind them and move on to the next one, which is what we are aiming to do against Wigan on Sunday.”

City are set to be backed by over 4,000 fans at the JJB Stadium, but some tickets are still available at the City of Manchester Stadium box office until 5.30pm on Saturday.
