Robinho back & set for Sunday

Mark Hughes has confirmed that Robinho is back training with the City squad after being allowed to miss the midweek Carling Cup tie for family reasons.

The Manager made several changes for the trip to the south coast, but the Brazilian superstar was the only fit player not to go, as he explains:

"Shaun actually was injured, but Robinho has had a lot going on with issues back home that needed resolving so that was more about clearing his mind. We've been able to do that and he's back fit & well, and he trained this morning. Ideally you would like to play your best players week in, week out but realistically you can't."

With a couple of weeks of working with the talented former Real Madrid & Santos star under his belt, Hughes also reveals what it is like to see him at close quarters in training.

"He's a great talent. What has struck everybody is you see the enjoyment he has in his day to day work, every time he comes to training he has a smile on his face. What strikes you is that it is not all about the flicks and backheels you associate with him, his general work is very correct and he has a great understanding of what is needed at each moment in time in a football match. If it needs an expansive pass, he's capable of it, if it's a shorter pass then he has the ability to recognise it.

"That's a skill that all great players have, they understand when to show their technical ability and when to keep it simple. And he has that. And he's OK for Sunday too!"

And looking forward to the visit to the JJB to face his old cohort Steve Bruce, Hughes is casting the Carling Cup disappointment to one side, adding:

"We can't allow ourselves to dwell on competitions that we are out of. We have to look ahead to the games that are before us, and that starts at the weekend.

"Wigan is a good one to come back in to, they are a good side, a strong and powerful one this year. They will upset a number of teams, so we don't want that to happen to us."
