Boss hails 'fantastic potential' of duo

After press reports over the last couple of days have suggested new deals could be in the offing for goalkeeper Joe Hart and striker Danny Sturridge, Mark Hughes has confirmed that it is important to keep his young talent at the Club.

He told mcfc.co.uk: "We want to tie up our good, young players, and obviously Joe and Daniel very much come into that category.

"It’s important that everyone understands that if you are good enough and come through the ranks, irrespective of the fact that we may have the resources to go into the market and acquire players, we will still look to make sure that the good, young players who come through the Academy will be here for a good length of time.

"That’s what we’re trying to do with Joe and Daniel because we feel they’ve got fantastic potential."

And expanding on Hart, who was selected in the England Under 21 squad alongside team mate Micah Richards yesterday, Hughes admitted the former Shrewsbury stopper could be up there with the best keepers he's worked with.

"Technically he’s as good as any I’ve seen," he stated. "What Joe hasn’t got at the moment is the benefit of experience and games under the belt.

"That’s the only difference at the moment, so ideally we want him to get that experience with us and make sure that he’s a keeper here for many years."
