Funding from the Football Foundation will allow City in the Community to put on the men’s only weekly football sessions, lead by professional football coaches, free of charge.
Marc Maddocks, City in the Community’s Health Coordinator said: “The sessions are a great way to engage fathers and sons in physical activity. The dads will get the chance to be informed on many health issues that can specifically affect men.”
“Healthy eating will be key to each session, ensuring that this is encouraged to everyone that attends.”
All sessions are 90 minutes long and designed for beginners, with the aim of improving overall health and fitness. Each session will include a 40 minute health talk for the dads and a football session for the sons. Everyone will join at the end for a game of football.
The website www.gettingmanchestermoving.org was launched in January 2007 and has had over 372,056 hits. It is designed to raise awareness about the importance of physical activity, its benefits and where these activities can be accessed as well as about healthy eating and weight management.
