Hughes keen to string results together

City boss Mark Hughes has previewed what lies in store for his team tonight having kept tabs on Middlesbrough ahead of their clash tonight on Teesside.

It’ll be Boro’s first outing at home since they were thrashed 5-0 by Chelsea but Gareth Southgate’s men bounced back and were unlucky not to take all three points at Ewood Park last time out.

Hughes said: “They had a disappointing performance last time at home, albeit against a very strong Chelsea side. They were punished very severely and will want to put that right in front of their own fans.

“I saw them at the weekend against Blackburn, they got into a winning position but were unfortunate not to see the game out.”

And now the City Manager is expecting a response in front of an expectant Riverside crowd.

“They have had a bit of a response but will want to put on a show for their own fans, and we will have to be mindful of that,” Hughes added.

“We'll be ready for the challenge, our confidence is high after Sunday but we want to win on a consistent basis.

“We'd like to think that we have an opportunity against Middlesbrough and maybe against Bolton this Sunday to pick up points.

“Back to back wins in the Premier League enables you to shoot up the table at this stage of the season, so tonight is a really big game for us.

“The season so far has been a little bit stop-start, what with international breaks, but I hope we now get a clear run at the league to string some results together and stay in the top half.”
