When asked how far the Blues can go in the UEFA Cup this season, he replied: “Well who knows? We want to go as far as we can.
“I’ve said in a number of press conferences before the Omonia game that we are still a young side.
"We’ve got guaranteed games now in the group so we’ll enjoy them, try to do our best in each and every one of them, and hopefully progress further.
“We have just come together as a group of players and are getting to know our strengths and weaknesses. Every game that we play, be it in the Premier League or in Europe, will help us in terms of development.”
Already this season the Blues have had to travel to the Faroe Isles, Denmark and Cyprus, all vital and important when it comes to building European experience.
“It’s important that a club, such as Manchester City and as big as this one, needs to have the profile of European football.
“As a group of players they’re young in terms of European experience and we need to build that experience very, very quickly.”
And daring to look further into the competition of what City could face, he added: “There’ll be a lot of teams coming in to the competition from the Champions League for example that have a lot more experience of playing in Europe in midweek and then playing domestic games very quickly following trips abroad. We have to come to terms with that very quickly.
“I’ve had this experience with European games where at times you feel they are a bind because they’re quite intense and a big drain on resources sometimes.
“But when you actually go out of the competition there’s a real empty void that is hard to take. We don’t want that feeling; we want to make sure we can go as far as we can.”
