His fine form for City since returning to the Club in late August has seen Fabio Capello bring the 26-year-old back into the fold, with the chance of adding to his 19 caps coming in the games against Kazakhstan at Wembley and away to Belarus in Minsk.
SWP made an instant impact after his move from Chelsea, scoring twice in his first game back against Sunderland, and he has since added two more goals along with some influential displays.
Manager Mark Hughes had voiced his opinion that the winger’s form warranted a call-up from Fabio Capello, and tonight he exclusively told MCFC.co.uk:
“We are absolutely delighted for him, it is just reward for an outstanding start he has made to the resumption of his City career. He came back to a club he knows well, he is playing with a smile on his face and both Shaun & the Club are benefitting from that.
“He came back here as a much better player with more experience and he understands what it takes to affect the game in a positive manner. He’s been able to do that, but he’s a great guy who works extremely hard for his team mates and his work ethic is without question. Mr Capello has recognised those qualities and that’s why he is back in.
“He’s quick and he is experienced at international level, his recall is justified and it won’t faze him in any way, shape or form.”
