Blues await injury news on Fernandes

As City’s players return from international duty over the course of today and tomorrow, Mark Hughes has admitted a programme of midweek international friendlies is not ideal preparation ahead of Arsenal’s visit to Manchester this Saturday.

With at least 10 first team members away representing their countries this week and a handful of other squad players in action, the Blues boss has been working with depleted numbers on the training pitch as he plans to get back to winning ways against Arsene Wenger’s men.

He told us: “Well we’ve had a smaller group obviously and we’re still waiting for everybody to return.

“It’s Thursday now, but we won’t get everybody back until sometime tomorrow, so leading into a game against Arsenal it’s not ideal preparation.

“I’m sure Arsene has had many players away all across the globe so that’s just what happens on an international week.”

And getting players all back safely and in one piece is another concern for club manager’s but the Blues boss could be without another member of his first team squad for Saturday.

“We’re waiting on information on Gelson Fernandes,” Hughes confirmed. “There was a report that he came off at some point in his game, we’re thinking it was probably at half time, so we’re just going to check on him.

“Apart from that, injury wise from the internationals, we haven’t had any other reports so we’re keeping our fingers crossed.”

As we brought you up-to-date this morning on one player who would have featured for England last night but for injury, Joe Hart, the Manager was able to confirm better news on the keeping front.

“We have been given permission to bring in a goalkeeper on loan so we'll see what's out there,” Hughes declared.

"It would be just a short-term situation to cover us for a couple of games because it’s likely that Joe’s fitness is likely to be resolved quicker than we initially thought.

“We'll see who's available and see if it's worthwhile bringing anybody in."
