The Tigers had pounced on a mistake by Tal Ben Haim early on to go ahead, but a similar mistake at the other end allowed Stephen Ireland to level things up on 38 minutes, and just before the break a piece of sublime skill from the same player saw us take the lead.
But it was a familiar face in Geovanni who, almost inevitably, dragged it back to 2-2 from a deflected free kick on the hour.
On the game, Mark said: “We made it hard by gifting them a goal, and at that point you wonder what’s going on? In fairness I thought we showed courage and determination to get back on level terms, then we got our noses in front and I thought that then we were quite comfortable.
“We restricted them to long balls into our box which we dealt with comfortably. The free kick they scored from was disappointing was because I feel that the referee gave Hull a lot more decisions than at the other end. It cost us, took a big deflection and gone past Kasper.
“Overall, we were determined today and we needed to get something out of the game, which we did. It was not the three points we wanted, but it was a good away performance, we looked a threat on the break.
“If we could have avoided individual errors and one or two decisions had gone our way, then we could have had the win here.”
Joe Hart was dealt a blow when he sustained an ankle injury while trying to prevent Cousin from taking the lead. The unlucky keeper was replaced by Schmeichel and could miss two to three weeks according to the Manager.
“It looks initially like ankle ligaments. He has gone over on the ankle as he has come out to stop their striker, and in that collision their lad has fallen on him as well. Until we get an expert’s opinion we won’t know the extent of it, but it looks likely to be maybe two or three weeks.”
Robinho was a surprise choice for captain today in Richard Dunne’s absence, but explaining his choice the Manager concluded:
“I thought Robinho responded well, but I had seen good signs against Spurs. Today he was always available, great on the ball and I think he led from the front. He enjoyed it, enjoyed meeting the referee beforehand and it was something I think he deserved.
“He’s a great player, but what I don’t think he gets credit for is that he is brave and determined, and he wants to win with Manchester City. That was evident in his performance today.”
