Hughes hopeful over Hart

Mark Hughes has given some cause for hope following Joe Hart’s ankle injury he picked up against Hull City on Sunday.

The Manager was also quick to add that he has no qualms calling on Kasper Schmeichel for the important games that lie ahead for the Blues over the next few weeks.

Of the injury to Joe, Hughes told mcfc.co.uk: “It’s likely to be a couple of weeks. It may improve and this type of injury can sometimes improve markedly quite quickly.

“It was a little bit delicate initially because there’s a fear that there might have been ligament damage. I don’t think that’s the case, it’s a bad strain but he’ll be back sooner than we thought – that’s the thinking at the moment – but we’ll need to wait and see.”

And in the meantime the Manager stressed he has no problems handing the gloves to the Danish Under 21 keeper Schmeichel, who performed so well at the start of last season.

“It’s unfortunate but over the course of the season you will get injuries,” he continued. “I thought Kasper came in and did really well. He showed a lot of confidence and settled everybody down after conceding a goal and Joe having to go off.

“He looked very assured and I have no qualms about putting Kasper into the side, he’s done it before, and he’ll be fine.

“He’s a very confident young man and he probably feels a little bit aggrieved that he’s not playing anyway because that’s the confidence he has in his own ability.

“It won’t faze him and his self confidence is one of his strengths, so to reiterate, I won’t have any problem playing Kasper.”

One potential problem the Blues could have in the short term though is cover for Kasper and Hughes appeared calm when asked about the possibilities of drafting in an emergency keeper.

He added: “We’ve looked at it, only really to cover Kasper’s situation and we’re struggling in terms of injuries to the keepers, if we can get somebody to cover the bench then that’s all we’ll want to do.

“I’ve got to check it out and make enquiries as to whether the Premier League would look favourably on us bringing one in.

“As for where we look, it’s not something that we’ve pursued at this moment in time because we haven’t had clear indication that it will be allowed. If it is then obviously we’ll look more closely at who’s out there and who we can actually bring in.”
