Manager provides pre-derby injury update

Fresh from victory over FC Schalke in Gelsenkirchen last night, City boss Mark Hughes has faced the media this morning at the City of Manchester Stadium ahead of Sunday’s crunch Manchester derby.

With a trio of South American stars left out of the hugely impressive 2-0 win at the VELTINS Arena and the withdrawal of Javi Garrido after the first half, Hughes was asked the question about his side’s injuries going into the Sunday lunchtime encounter.

He said: “We will obviously check on everybody for the weekend when we get into training later on today.

“There’s a doubt on Javi Garrido who was struggling at half time yesterday and asked to be replaced so we’ll have to check on him.

“The guys that we left behind, we’re very hopeful that they will be available for selection, Robbie [Robinho], Elano and Pablo [Zabaleta].

“They’ve improved during the week and hopefully today that improvement will continue and they’ll be an option for me.”

We’ll bring you plenty more derby day build up here on mcfc.co.uk over the next couple of days as we countdown to Sunday’s vital sold out clash.
