Midfielder's praise for impeccable support

Star performer Stephen Ireland has echoed his captain’s praise for the Blues fans at the VELTINS Arena last night and hopes for more of the same at Sunday afternoon’s derby.

Dunne was rightly proud of the performance yesterday and hailed the ‘brilliant’ City fans amongst the 54,000 crowd after the 2-0 win over FC Schalke.

Today the 22-year-old midfielder has added his praise: “City’s fans both home and away are always fantastic, but last night was special, seeing them cheering us on with all their scarves and flags and singing their songs, was an amazing sight.

“They were impeccable and I hope they can create the type of atmosphere we’ve had in the Stadium against United over the past few years – especially with the way they waved their scarves as we walked out on to the pitch.

“We’ve had a couple of great results already this week and a win on Sunday would be a fine hat-trick for us.

“Derby games are great occasions anyway but the part the fans play make it all the more special and we’ll be counting on their backing come Sunday.”

And in the build up to the big game, Kevin Parker, City’s Official Supporters Club General Secretary has stated: “Last season's atmosphere was fantastic, as it always is for derby matches and to witness what can only be described as a sea of blue and white around the entire stadium was a sight to behold.

“It would be fantastic if we can do the same again, with the same result, and it will no doubt come as a real boost for our players.”
