Reserves downed at the Stadium of Light

A young City reserve side were outmanoeuvred in their top of the table clash with Sunderland on Thursday night.

The Blues had the chance to take the lead when Paul Marshall rattled the crossbar on 28 minutes, but the Black Cats made the most of their luck. Dowson took the lead just a minute later, but City hit the woodwork again shortly after, Marshall the unlucky one again when his impressive free kick came back off the bar.

The hosts doubled their lead just before the break, Hartley taking advantage of a fumble by City keeper Johansen from close range.

The second half was a quiet affair with few chances for either side, and now there is now a six-point gap between the two sides at the top of the Barclays Premier Reserve League North table.
