The former Wales international was reserve team boss at Ewood Park under Mark Hughes before moving to City this summer and he will be looking to end the Lancashire club's undefeated home record.
It's also a swift return to Morecambe for Northern Ireland international Ryan McGivern, who has just completed a loan spell with the Shrimps, and boss Sammy McIlroy is keen to see Ryan back with the League Two side.
He told Morecambe's official website: "We are talking with Manchester City because we would love to keep Ryan here. His current loan spell is now up but we will be trying to get him back. He's enjoyed it here and the boys have really enjoyed having him as well.
"I think his spell here has been good for him and helped his game and he knows that he is guaranteed games here, which is something that will help his development further."
Sunderland still lead the way at the top of the Barclays Premier Reserve League North by six points with the Blues sitting second and tonight's hosts Blackburn in fourth place.

Tobias Johansen
Eirik Johansen
Ben Morris
Ryan McGivern
