Robinho & I will bring best out of each other, says Elano

Elano has told MCFCTV.com of his delight at City's signing of his old friend Robinho earlier this season.

The pair have been team mates for both Santos and for the Brazilian national side, so when Elano heard the news that his compatriot was joining him here he was convinced that the move would bring the best out of the both of them.

He says, "I was very happy when I heard he was coming, because I look at him as one of my brothers. I always tell him that he was missing me, that's why he came after me here!

"I know what I can do with or without him, but he has often told me that he needs me around to improve his game as well. I have known him so well for many, many years and when we have played together he has a lot of chances to score, and his game improves.

"Sometimes I'm a bit sad if I'm not playing in the team, and I feel that I could. That's not up to me, but I'm very happy to have Robinho here alongside me because we are such good friends."

Robinho's arrival has seen Elano gain a rival in the penalty-taking stakes, with both having now scored from the spot so far this season.

"There's no problems with that!" he laughs. "If I get to the ball first and get the penalty, he would not have a problem with that, but the main thing is to score the penalty of course."

Elano was speaking to us at the first of this season's Premier League Creating Chances Event. The Brazilian was helping out with City in the Community's Getting Manchester Moving initiative to promote healthy eating for children, rustling up some fruit smoothies and telling local children how his diet helps him prepare for matches and training. But when it comes to cooking, he admits that his Mum's traditional Brazilian cooking is still the best for him.

"To be honest I'm not that good, often I have my Mum around and she knows what I like and need. Whenever she's around I'm happy for her to cook. I think more people over should get to know more about Brazilian food, we eat a lot of fruit & vegetables, and the traditional cuisine uses beans and a lot of healthy things. If it's healthy, you should always pass that on to someone-else and I hope Brazilian cuisine becomes more popular over here."
