Skipper wary of Tottenham's attitude change

After a pleasing, if a little tense at times, victory over FC Twente last night City captain Richard Dunne as turned his attentions to Sunday’s Barclays Premier League match against a resurgent Tottenham Hotspur.

Since Harry Redknapp replaced Juande Ramos just a few weeks ago, the London side have yet to taste defeat in four games, showing a steely determination to getting results in the process.

And watching on from the outside during the early part of the campaign, the Blues’ skipper told us: “I’ve been surprised by their start to the season. Obviously they’ve got a quality squad and looked all summer like they were going to be a main challenger to the top four.

“They had a poor start but I think now with the change in manager and a new face around the dressing room there’s been a whole attitude change.

“They look like a side now who are going to keep pushing up the table. I think it was the same last year when we played Tottenham in the Carling Cup.

“They had a terrible start, sacked the manager and then we played them, they beat us and went on to win the cup.

“Since they’ve changed the manager again this season they’re looking really good at the moment and it’ll make it a very difficult game for us.”

Last night also saw a good result for Spurs as they put Dinamo Zagreb to the sword, putting four unanswered goal past the Croatian side, so the entertainment currently on show at the City of Manchester Stadium could well continue this weekend.

And Richard added: “At the moment we’re a side who are going to entertain people but probably not get many results if we keep defending as we are.

“Over the last few years we’ve not conceded many, but then we’ve not really scored many goals. Now we’re starting to score a lot, but we’re conceding too many.

“I think it takes time to find a balance and keep an even keel where people are doing both jobs. Over the next few games we’ll have to tighten up at the back and make ourselves difficult to beat.

“It is the 11 of us who have to defend as a team it is not just down to the goalkeeper and the back four."
