Stevie looking forward to Geo reunion

Stephen Ireland knows that an old friend is going to make a tough task at Hull this Sunday even harder.

The Tigers have made a good start to life in the Barclays Premier League and six goals from former City fans' favourite Geovanni have made a big difference.

But regardless of whether his former team-mate has an impact or not this weekend, Stephen is well aware that the Blues have got to dig deep to get back to winning ways after three straight league defeats.

The 22-year-old tells us, "It's going to be a tough game, Hull are having a good season and we know what we have to do. We've got to knuckle down and work harder, we showed against Spurs that we can work well as a unit, which maybe we have not done for a while, but we did that with nine men.

"We really knuckled down and worked, if we had had 11 men we could have pushed on, but we learned from it.

"There have been a few games, like Wigan and Newcastle, where with a bit of extra work we could have got a bit more out them. At the moment we are trying to get back on track."

Geovanni made the vast majority of his City appearances from the bench, but he wrote himself a chapter in our folklore when he scored the only goal in the home derby win in August last year.

Regular starts and a clutch of goals on Humberside have reminded a wider audience of his talents, but Stephen is confident that the inside track will help the Blues to shackle him this Sunday.

He adds, "He's doing well over there, he's getting the chance to play week-in, week-out and he's being trusted. He's taken his chance well, been freed up in his number 10 position and looking pretty good.

"We'll know how to deal with him, you don't want to allow him to finish and we won't want to do that on Sunday."
