Hughes has brushed off concerns that two goalless outings in a week
from his side are worrying the Manager ahead of the weekend trip to
face Fulham.
In fact there are only Fulham’s main London rivals
Chelsea who have scored more Barclays Premier League goals than City
thus far and Hughes stated today: “I don’t think that scoring goals is
a problem for us.
“It’s only in the last couple of games against
good opposition that we’ve failed to create as many chances as we’ve
had in previous games.
“So we will always create chances and we will put people in positions where they have opportunities to score.”
And
despite coming up against a Fulham side in a good run of form, the
Blues boss intends to keep playing to his team’s strengths.
He
added: “We’ve got a lot of attack minded players and sometimes it’s
difficult because we’ve got players out [injured] that obviously would
help and give me more options, more defensive minded players like
Gelson Fernandes and Michael Johnson, who would help in that respect.
“At
the end of the day you’ve got to play to your strengths and with the
vast majority of my players being attack minded then maybe we have to
go with a really positive attitude, as we always do, and look to win
games.
“We need to be nice and solid which we have been in
recent weeks. It looks better defensively, so that’s encouraging, as
long as we’ve got that defensive platform then that frees the attack
minded players that we have in front of the back five and hopefully we
can free them to score the goals that will win us the game.”
