Hughes returns to his former stamping ground today looking for three
more points to push City further up the table following the fine win
over Hull on Boxing Day.
The 5-1 thrashing of Hull moved the Blues up
to 15th place, and having made several changes for that game he now
faces the choice of whether to pick the same team to face a rejuvenated
Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.
He says, "It would be good to get
back to back wins if we can, it's difficult to do that in this league.
When we play as well as we did against Hull, we are more than capable
of doing that.
"I would have no qualms about sending out the same
team again on Sunday. If everybody is fit and well, then you have to
factor in that it's only 48 hours after the last game. You have to be
careful about pushing people too hard so soon after another game, you
could compromise someone for weeks on end.
"But if a team wins 5-1, they should expect to play the next game shouldn't they?"
Elano
was back in the starting XI on Boxing Day having been dropped from the
squad for the previous game at West Brom, and the Manager was delighted
with the response he saw from the Brazilian.
"I thought he did
really well on Boxing Day. I got a good response from him, and he
showed that he wants to be part of what we are doing. That's what
everybody has to do, and he had a good, positive impact. In other
games, maybe different personnel would be the right way to go,
sometimes it has to be horses for courses."
Today's game will be
the first time the City boss has returned to the Club he guided to top
10 places and European football, so is he expecting a good reception?
"Who
knows? I had a good time there as a manager, it's a good club with some
fantastic people there. I wish them well, and I hope they are not at
the wrong end of the table at the end of the season. But that was the
past, and I am looking to the future.
"There's a good group of players there, they work exceptionally hard but I'm doing everything to beat them if we can."
