Boss provides injury news latest

Mark
Hughes has given his now weekly injury updates on his squad as
preparations continue ahead of Everton’s visit to the City of
Manchester Stadium this Saturday.

Speaking to the media at the
Carrington Training Centre today Hughes reported better news over the
likes of Nedum Onuoha and Valeri Bojinov as well as confirming that
Gelson Fernandes has returned to full training.

Onuoha came
through an hour of the reserves’ win over Middlesbrough earlier this
week after suffering with a leg muscle injury and the Blues boss said:
“He’s been in and around the squad since he got injured and I felt it
was important that he had a game this week just to bring him on because
he’s missed quite a chunk of training and in fairness hasn’t had that
many games this year.

“So it was important that we put some
game time into him, he got a good hour in and looked fine in the game
itself, so that will help him. He’s a good young player and everybody
knows his qualities, so to have the option of Nedum in the squad is
important because he has the ability to play in a couple of positions.”

And
of Bojinov, Hughes added to comments made by his assistant, Mark Bowen
by saying: “Boj is doing really well with his rehab work and we’re
hopeful that we are going to get him back in mid-January if everything
goes to plan. He’s been out training on the pitches looking like a
footballer again so that’s really encouraging.

“He’s been really
unfortunate and we all know the catalogue of injuries that he’s had and
as a young player it’s been really difficult for him. He’s got the
strength of character and being in his company he’s always got a smile
on his face even though he’s been out for such a long time. We’re
really encouraged by the way he’s progressing and looking forward to
getting him back.”

One player who could return to action this
weekend though is Robinho and the Manager stated: “Robinho hasn’t
trained with the group all week and we’re going to keep him back one
more day. He’s got a little bit of discomfort when he sprints at full
pace so we’re trying to resolve that and hopefully that’ll improve
today and he’ll be able to train tomorrow.”

As for other members
of his squad with injuries, the Blues boss stated: “Micah’s still got a
little bit of a problem with his shin and with the ground being a bit
firm underfoot it might be advisable that we hold a few of the injuries
back today but we’ll see and hopefully we can get most of them out, if
not today, then certainly tomorrow.

“Javi Garrido is having some
treatment, Daniel Sturridge is ill, but Michael Johnson is like to
train next week and he’s another young player who had a long of
injuries and it’s been really frustrating for him. Hopefully there’s
light at the end of the tunnel now and next week he’ll train with the
group.”
