Academy boss Jim Cassell has reacted further to the FA Youth Cup
holders’ progression into the fourth round of the competition on
Tuesday night.
Swansea City’s Under 18 side tried but couldn’t stem
the constant flow of City’s attacking play and the Blues came away from
the Liberty Stadium with a well deserved 3-0 victory.
Cassell told mcfc.co.uk:
“It wasn’t a pretty performance and we have played better than that,
but that’s credit to the opposition. In the end 3-0 probably reflected
the game and away from home that’s excellent.”
Also excellent on
the night were goalscoring strikers Robbie Mak and two-goal hero Alex
Nimely-Tchuimeni, of whom Jim added: “Alex did what goalscorers do – he
was in there to finish off with a couple of close range efforts.
“The first goal was a great set up by him for Robbie Mak and the next two were good goalscorers goals.”
Ever
the perfectionists, Cassell and his backroom staff still came away from
Swansea not 100% happy, as Jim stated: “I think we are capable of
playing better and without being arrogant that’s probably the standard
we’ve set for these players.
“It doesn’t matter how much you just try and play it as another game it was a big game for the boys.
“I
think we were a bit anxious as well because for the first time ever we
were defending something. It did have a little bit of an edge to it and
it was a very good game to get out of the way."
But the added
experience of some of the players involved on Tuesday already having
winning medals at home should help settle the team down during what
they hope will be a long and successful run in this season's
competition.
“There were four on the pitch who started in the
second leg of the final last year; Robbie Mak, Kieran Trippier, Andrew
Tutte and Dedryck Boyata. Abdi and Alex came on in the final too but
the rest were new to it and I thought they equipped themselves quite
well," Cassell commented.
“Last year’s team is going to be a hard
act to follow. The signs are there thought and it’s early stages yet
but to come away to unknown territory and opposition we’re all
delighted to come away with a 3-0 victory.
“We’ll wait for the draw now and anything could happen there have been a couple of absolute crackers drawn in the third round.
“We’ve had one home draw in three seasons so let’s hope that maybe we get a home draw because that’s all you can ask for.”
