Ched could reign in Spain

Ched Evans could get a chance to impress in tonight’s UEFA Cup tie against Real Racing Club in Santander.

Illness
and injury has shorn City’s squad of Benjani, Danny Sturridge and Jo,
so the young Welsh striker could get the chance to start for the first
time since October’s win over Stoke.

With the Blues’ squad preparing for the game in northern Spain tonight, Mark Hughes told mcfc.co.uk:

“Everybody
who has come over and is fit & well is up for selection. I think
that Ched has done well this year and has had an impact. Having been
out on loan last year he has progressed and is very much part of the
first team squad.

“When he gets the chance he is always
striving to make an impression, he’s wholehearted and wants to make a
name for himself. He certainly has an impact in a physical sense, and
he has done well for us.”

Unbeaten on their travels in Europe
this season, the Blues are targeting a win to ensure first place in
Group A, and therefore avoiding teams coming down from the Champions
League in Friday’s draw. The Manager thinks that European games suit
City, and he continues:

“I think we have coped really well in
European games, what it shows is how strong a league the Premier League
is. On occasions we have faced lesser opposition than in the Premier
League, and at times our style suits European football. We have good
technical players, and we’ve been on a par with some of the other teams
we have faced. In the Premier League there’s more of an emphasis on
power and pace, and we’ve needed to better in that respect domestically.

“Overall
we have been pleased with what we’ve done in Europe so far. The key
thing when we started all that time ago in the Faroes was to progress
into the group stages, so then anything from there is a bonus.”
