Emile Heskey Set For Showdown Talks With Wigan Athletic

Wigan Athletic striker Emile Heskey is set to meet with Latics chairman Dave Whelan with regards to sorting out the striker's future with the club.

Heskey has been the subject of strong interest from several Premier League clubs, with Tottenham Hotspur almost signing him during the summer.

The 30-year-old striker is out of contract at the end of the season and could end up leaving the club for free next summer, with Wigan manager Steve Bruce insisting he does not want the striker to leave for cut price during the January transfer window.

The former Liverpool man is said to be prepared to stay at the JJB Stadium, however, if a team challenging for the Champions League comes in for him, he may find it hard to turn down the offer.

Whelan spoke to him last summer about the possibility of a move, but the Leicester born striker was not interested.

Heskey said, "He came to me in July and said he had interest, and if I wanted to leave he would respect that.

"But I haven't said anything to him, and he hasn't said anything to me - so it is the same situation."

Heskey's career has taken off this season, with England coach Fabio Capello recalling him to the England squad, and has become a big part of the Italian's team.

The England international doesn't seem perturbed by the mystery and uncertainty surrounding his future, and is only concentrating on playing well for Wigan.

"I'm a Wigan player," added Heskey.

"Whoever doesn't put a shift in for the club they are playing for really needs to leave.

"I'm trying my hardest here, and everyone else is. Kevin Kilbane, Henri Camara and Ryan Taylor are out of contract like I am, and nothing much is said about them - they are brushed to one side.

"We're all in the same boat and want to do well for Wigan while we have contracts."
