The
German midfielder knows what it takes to win European competitions from
his days with Liverpool, and he is pleased with the way City have so
far coped with the demands of the UEFA Cup.
He told MCFCTV.com,
"You have to adapt, but I think we've done exceptionally well in this
competition so far. We've got the chance to win the group if we win in
Santander. It also depends on how Twente get on, but it would be nice
to top things off before Christmas with a win. That gives you a home
game in the second leg of the next round, and potentially not as strong
an opponent if you come second or third.
"The games are played a
bit differently, the tempo's not as high, referee's from other
countries might give free kicks more often than at home - it all adds
up."
Winning Group A would mean City will avoid one of the eight
teams joining the UEFA Cup from the Champions League in Friday's draw,
and Didi wants the Blues to do everything they can to get the result at
the Estadio El Sardinero tonight that will ensure that outcome.
"I hope we can avoid a Champions League team, but I expect us to win the group now," he declared.
"There
are some very good teams coming down from the Champions League in the
latter stages, so we'll have to be on our toes. Once you get to the
knock-out stages the stronger teams will come through, and a lot are
potential winners of the cup.
"Beating Schalke was a great win,
they are a good side and that gave us a lot of confidence for European
games. Hopefully we can take that into Thursday's game."
And don't forget the whole of Real Racing Club v Manchester City will be streamed LIVE on www.MCFCTV.com tonight from 7.45pm.
