Mega-rich Manchester City's form this season has hardly reflected their new-found wealth.
Since
Robinho's £32 million British record switch from Real Madrid, the
Citizens have only accumulated a handful of wins and, most famously,
slaughtered a struggling Arsenal side 3-0 at the City of Manchester
Stadium.
For all of Robinho's brilliance this term, fellow national Jo has thus far failed to live up to his hefty price tag.
Repaying The Faith
Manager
Mark Hughes has backed his striker to find his stride in the Premier
League though, and told the club's official website:
"Jo has found it
a bit of a struggle but he is working hard in training and trying to do
the right things.
"He's a young player with potential, as we knew when
he came, but he will get better. In certain games I have had other
options that I have decided to go with but he is still a big part of
what we are doing here."
A
further samba star, Ronaldinho, has claimed that he could have joined
the Blue project but joined Italian giants AC Milan instead.
City Project Tempts Star
He is quoted by the Telegraph as saying: "Their
project is the kind that would interest any player - they could soon be
among the best sides in England.
"Lots of brilliant players are heading
in their direction and yes, my brother [his agent] looked properly at their offer," he said.
"But
Silvio Berlusconi [Milan owner] had been saying for years that he would
like to sign me and I felt in the end that it was the right time to say
yes."
