Vincent Kompany has offered encouragement to his besieged Manchester City team-mates after their disappointing 1-0 defeat to Everton at the weekend.
Despite the Citizens tumbling down to 17th place in the Premier League table, the Belgian midfielder has stated that the team must become downcast and let the pressure negatively affect them.
"Saturday's game was a bit frustrating but we have to learn from it and we must keep our heads up, work harder and look to the next game," Kompany explained to The Manchester Evening News.
"We lost like that in the last minute against Liverpool and now against Everton but the last thing we must do is start doubting ourselves.
"I still believe strongly in this team and I am sure the next game will confirm that mentally we are strong."
City have given an occasional impression recently that they are a side muddling through things until the arrival of some extremely expensive cavalry once the transfer window re-opens in January. Kompany insists that this is not the case and the players must not let themselves think like that.
"It is important that we react now and not wait for what might happen in a few weeks time," he said.
Kompany, who is really a defender but has excelled playing the holding role in City's midfield this season, was signed in the summer from German outfit Hamburg for £6 million. He has won 27 caps for Belgium.
