Man City Still Keen On Blackburn Star

Manchester City are reportedly still keen on signing striker Roque Santa Cruz in the January transfer window.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the Paraguay international
remains firmly on Mark Hughes' radar despite the former Bayern Munich
player resolving his immediate issues with Blackburn Rovers’
newly-appointed manager Sam Allardyce.

Santa Cruz had recently stated in an interview that if a ‘better or
an ambitious club' want him then he would not mind taking his chance.
And Allardyce has made it clear to him what he felt especially at a
time when Rovers are battling in the relegation zone.

The former Bolton Wanderers and Newcastle United boss said: "We've
had the discussion and I just said the timing I thought was very poor.

"He should have not done that interview. It was not certainly set up by this football club, which was disappointing.

"Obviously I felt it was slightly sinister, the timing of it, but we
have resolved that and I have told him I don't want him to leave and
that is probably the end of it."

Allardyce, who replaced Paul Ince at the helm at Ewood Park and
instantly guided Rovers to a much-needed win in his first match in
charge against Stoke City, wants to keep Santa Cruz, but he is not 100
per cent sure.

"You can never be 100 per cent about anything in this game but I haven't come here to sell my best players," he added.
