Manchester City are preparing a January transfer bid for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder David Bentley, according to a report in the British tabloid the Daily Mirror.
Manchester City manager Mark Hughes knows the 24-year-old well as he brought him to Blackburn Rovers from Arsenal while in charge at Ewood Park.
It is thought that the Welshman has identified the England international as a possible transfer target with Spurs manager Harry Redknapp believed to be keen to raise funds to bring in his own transfers.
Apparently, the Citizens are reluctant to allow Shaun Wright-Phillips to leave as part of the deal and will instead offer the £15 million paid to Blackburn to bring the former Arsenal man to White Hart Lane this summer.
However, with Bentley admitting that he supported Tottenham as a youngster and describing the move as a 'dream', it is unlikely that he will want to depart so soon after arriving especially given the sudden upturn in the club's fortunes since Redknapps's appointment.
