Manchester City comes to Bell Pottinger (again) with Paul Tyrell signing

Bell Pottinger North has recruited Paul Tyrell, the former head of communications for Manchester City FC, to head up a new sports and sponsorship division.

The Macclesfield-based agency “worked closely” alongside Tyrell when it handled the publicity brief for former club owner Thaksin Shinawatra and, according to MD John Butters, was keen to strike up an acquaintance once again.

Bell Pottinger North has recruited Paul Tyrell, the former head of communications for Manchester City FC, to head up a new sports and sponsorship division.

Butters told How-Do that Tyrell, who allegedly received a six-figure pay off upon his departure from MCFC, had already joined the firm and the division was now effectively up and running.

He said of the new proposition: “We will be offering a broad range of public relations services to organisations within the sports sector and to sponsors of those clubs and teams.

“Bell Pottinger Group already has relationships with many of the big brands that are sponsoring events and teams in the North and we look forward to helping them maximise their investment.

“Together we also have experience of supporting sports businesses with their communications on and off the pitch.”

Butters added that the division would at first be constituted solely of Tyrell, himself and Liverpool-based Richard Clein, but noted “we will bring in additional staff once the business can justify recruitment.”

He concluded: “with Paul’s credentials in this sector we are very optimistic and excited about the opportunities to grow the team.”
