Under 21 defender Nedum Onuoha came through 61 minutes of City
reserves' 3-1 victory over Middlesbrough at the Regional Athletics
Arena tonight.
A leg muscle had kept Onuoha on the sidelines recently
but he put in a dominant performance as Glyn Hodges' team swept aside
Boro.
It only took four minutes for prolific striker David Ball to get his name on the scoresheet with a typical finish although the Blues had to wait another 40 minutes to make it 2-0.
Paul Marshall
was brought down just outside the area but he picked himself up to curl
a fine free kick inside the near post a minute before the break.
City's
dominance continued into the second half and on 50 minutes Adam
Clayton's volley into the bottom corner made it 3-0 as the game looked
done and dusted.
Boro rallied and on 59 minutes Ben Mee's
attempted clearance caught his 'wrong' foot and bounced into the net
for 3-1. The unfortunate goal gave the visitors hope and despite their
extra pressure City could have stretched their lead before full time.
City:
T.Johansen, Mee, McGivern, Onuoha (Vidal 61), McDonald, Clayton, Weiss, Marshall, Ball, Daly, Morris.
unused subs: Obeng, Hartley, Ramsey.
