Pablo Zabaleta Getting "Better And Better" For Manchester City

Pablo Zabaleta feels that he has acclimatised fully to English football now, and wants to progress towards some concrete achievements with the club during the rest of the season, with the UEFA Cup occupying a central place in his thoughts.

The 22-year old Argentine, like many of his new team-mates, had never had to play so many fixtures at a time of year when he would normally be having a break, but he feels that he has now fitted in fully.

"I feel bit by bit I am getting better and better," he said earlier. "I feel as if I am fitting into the team more with each match that I play.

"I know that it is a big project here and that the club is building for the future. Every match is like an examination for every player. Each of us is playing to be part of the long term plans here. That I know is my big challenge."

The City full-back, who moved from Spanish side Espanyol in the summer for £6 million, would also like to taste some European glory this season and help City go one stage further than his former club managed in 2007, when they were beaten finalists in the UEFA Cup.

"We lost that day but of course there is the chance for me to help City get to the final this season," he continued. "I want to go as far as possible in the competition and get the opportunity to play against the top teams in Europe again."

He is also hoping that his club form might win him a recall to his national side's colours as well, and that he might soon receive a call from Argentina coach Diego Maradona.

"He hasn't been in touch yet but I am hoping he will notice my performances for City," added the player, by way of conclusion.
