Redknapp Admits Manchester City Lead Bellamy Race

West Ham United's rookie boss Gianfranco Zola has made it perfectly clear that he doesn't want to lose players in January - least of all wily striker Craig Bellamy.

The Welshman's form since returning from injury has rekindled the interest of his many former admirers, with Harry Redknapp and Mark Hughes most keen to land him in January.

'Arry's Tottenham Hotspur have already been rebuffed by the Hammers, but are expected to table a fresh bid. However, Hughes' mega-rich Manchester City are, Redknapp understands, sure to win any bidding war and therefore in the driving seat.

The Spurs boss said: "Bellamy? I think there will be more offers - Manchester City are supposed to be very interested - but he belongs to West Ham and if they decide they do not want to sell him, then it's up to them.

"I'll speak to the chairman, but if Man City are in for him then it is very difficult to compete with them. They can throw millions and millions at everything."

The current Lilywhite hitmen have question marks written all over them. Roman Pavlyuchenko has been described as lazy, both on and off the field, while Darren Bent hasn't shown the consistency needed and on-loan Fraizer Campbell is a work in progress.

Spurs drew 0-0 with Fulham on Boxing Day and Redknapp admits that he would even settle for Fulham's ex-Tottenham forward Bobby Zamora, adding: "Maybe it was thought he wasn't good enough, but he looks all right to me!"
