Sturridge aims to build on his eye-catching cameo against Blackburn,
and he's relishing the challenge of possibly players jostling for a
place in the starting XI.
The 19-year old scored one and set up the
other after coming on as a substitute as City clawed their way back to
earn a point on Sunday afternoon.
On target three times this
season despite starting only two Barclays Premier League, Daniel was
pleased to be given the chance to impress and he said:
"I was
happy to be out there, I’ve had an injured Achilles for the last few
weeks so I was glad I could play. Whatever time you get there, you just
want to make an impact and I was delighted to make a contribution.
"I
was eager to show I belong at first-team level. I know the club might
buy players in January but that doesn't worry me as I am willing to
fight for my minutes on the pitch.
"What every player wants to
do is play with world class and European class players and I am no
different. You want to show that you are as good as them.
"We
showed a lot of heart and courage to come back for the draw. The fans
were fantastic as well, even when we were down they were encouraging us
to get back into the game."
Robinho set up Daniel for his goal,
and the compliment was returned deep into stoppage time, and of the way
he has hooked up with the prolific Brazilian he adds, "People have said
we seem to have a connection on the pitch, it was nice to get an assist
and to set him up for his goal. My Portuguese is not too good, but I do
speak a minor amount of Spanish, so we get round it OK.
"I'm a
striker, all I want to do is score goals and I managed to do that. For
the equaliser, I was going to have a pop but I decided to pass it - I
think it was the right decision!"
