It's all turned to shirts

The Guardian...

'Shirt deal to eclipse United's £56.5m'

Manchester
City hope to strike a record sponsorship deal with Etihad, national
airline of the United Arab Emirates, after opening talks about an
agreement that would recognise their position as the richest club in
the world.

Although talks are described as very early and several
other companies are also in the frame, Etihad's links to the Abu Dhabi
United Group, the club's owners, have established the airline as the
frontrunners to replace Thomas Cook.

The new agreement could be the biggest in English football, beating Manchester United's £56.5m four-year deal with AIG.

Meanwhile,
City have expressed a mixture of anger and bemusement about a newspaper
story that Mark Hughes was threatening to resign as manager because he
did not have complete control in the January transfer window. "As Mark
has said himself, you can only surmise that people have an agenda
against the club," his assistant, Mark Bowen, said.

'Manchester City aim to tie up £2.3m sponsorship deal with Etihad'

Manchester
City hope to clinch a club record shirt sponsorship deal with Middle
East airline Etihad when their £2.3million-a-year deal with travel
company Thomas Cook runs out at the end of the season.

Bring on the Villa?

The Sun...

'City in £60m Villa talks'

DAVID VILLA’S agent has flown in for talks about making a £60million move to Manchester City.
The
Spain striker, 27, is a target for many of Europe’s top clubs but
City’s billionaire Arab owners are ready to put their cash on the
table.

Sources in Spain say Jose Luis Tamargo, Villa’s agent,
met City’s representatives yesterday to discuss a five-year contract
worth £150,000-a-week.

Villa was one of the stars of Spain’s
Euro 2008 success. He was the tournament’s top scorer with four goals
despite missing the final victory over Germany because of injury.

The hitman averages more than a goal a game and is currently second top-scorer in La Liga.

Cash-strapped Valencia may find a bid the size of City’s would be too good to turn down.

The Daily Mail...

'Hughes may swoop for Inter's Esteban'

Manchester City boss Mark Hughes is ready to launch a £15million bid for Inter Milan midfielder Esteban Cambiasso.

Sources
at Inter say the 28-year-old Argentine international will be offered
£100,000 a week to switch to the Barclays Premier League. Cambiasso may
not be the big name star that City's owners and fans are demanding but
Hughes is refusing to be sidetracked by calls to sign the world's most
fashionable stars to follow in the footsteps of Robinho.

Instead,
he plans to build a side capable of challenging for honours by bringing
in experienced men in key positions. And he is desperate to strengthen
his midfield.

Cambiasso is an expert at mopping up when his side loses the ball. Hughes hopes to tempt him by offering him huge wages.

'Lazio want Manchester City star Elano on loan'

Lazio want Manchester City midfielder Elano on loan in January with a view to a permanent transfer.

The Brazilian made a huge impact at Eastlands after signing for £8m for Sven Goran Eriksson last season.

But he was recently fined by Mark Hughes for criticism over his lack of selection.
