A
Dedryck Boyata header two minutes before half time was enough to see
City through to the fifth round where they’ll now face either Queens
Park Rangers or Newcastle United who meet tonight.
Speaking after
the 1-0 win, Cassell said: “It was tough, we knew it was going to be
and I always think that the fourth round of the Youth Cup is the most
difficult to prepare for, simply because of the timing of it.
“There’s the Christmas break and invariably you get indifferent weather at this time of year so I’m absolutely delighted.
“We
always say before a game; ‘We’ll take 1-0 now.’ Then at half time if
we’re in front we’ll always say; ‘Don’t lose the second half then you
can’t lose the game.’
“I think they were a good side and
created some chances but didn’t put their’s away, we did, and that was
the difference at the end of the day.”
And the City goal just
before the break was as welcome in its construction as the timing and
execution as Jim added: “It was a set piece we’ve practiced and it came
off, which is always nice, so credit to Alex and the coaches for
working on that and to the boys as well for carrying it out.
“I
thought the boys battled well and we played some good football,
particularly in the first half, and had we put our chances away then I
think we might have had a more comfortable last 10 minutes.
“Overall
you can win games comfortably or win them by scrapping them out and
that win gives us a lot of pleasure because tactically it was very good
and the things we worked on came off for us.”
