The
21-year-old keeper did his bit too, clawing away a header from Mario
Melchiot in stoppage time when a desperate Wigan side were to salvage a
point against 10-man City.
So with a sending off, players playing
out of position, clearances off the line and Wigan's keeper up for a
corner at the end, just another quiet day at the office then Joe?
"It
did get a bit lively," he smiles. "The lads were brilliant, especially
after we went down to 10 men. I really felt for Dunnie, he was getting
clattered all over the place and getting no protection at all. He's
only human, but after that the lads were absolute warriors.
"That
makes it two situations recently which could have gone against us where
we have turned it around. There were the two goals at Blackburn, and it
is usually us that get the late goals against us, and then on Saturday
against Wigan. We've also had leads, then gone down to 10 men and
thrown it away but we were excellent on Saturday so hats off to
everyone.
"A few of the lads were out of position, but if you
asked them they would say all they were bothered about was being out on
the pitch somewhere. We worked as a unit, especially after the sending
off, and it must be difficult for Wigan because I thought they were a
good side."
Joe had to be on his toes for the majority of the
second half, even though the visitors did not force him into action on
too many occasions, and he adds:
"It felt like one-way traffic
most of the time, but there was one surprising outlet. Robinho was
awesome, as soon as I had the ball he was the man calling for it. There
are some monsters at the back for Wigan, I think even Heskey would
struggle against them, but Robbie was superb. He held it up, and he
made it hard to get it off him."
Pablo Zabaleta picked up the
man-of-the-match award for an all-action display in the unaccustomed
position of midfield, and his keeper agrees with all the plaudits that
have gone to the Argentinean.
"That's the kind of thing you
really want. He was asked to do a job and came through with flying
colours. He got stuck in and came away with the ball, even though he
was out of position he kept it simple by getting on with the job."
