Ireland a doubt for cup clash

Ahead
of this afternoon’s FA Cup, sponsored by E.ON, clash against Nottingham
Forest, Mark Hughes has revealed an injury doubt over key midfielder
Stephen Ireland.

The energetic Irishman has been a virtual
ever-present this season but a fifth booking of the league campaign
sees Stephen already miss out on the trip to Portsmouth later this
month.

And it now seems likely that Ireland could miss today’s
tie as the Manager said: “Stephen is a bit sore in his hamstring
unfortunately and we’ll need to take a view whether or we rest him
tomorrow.

“He’s had it for a couple of weeks but had discomfort
yesterday and didn’t finish the session. We’ll have to look at whether
he’s involved, obviously he’s not playing next week [due to suspension]
but we wouldn’t want to compromise him by playing him against Forest if
it’s not good for him.”

Elsewhere on the injury front, Hughes
added: “Robinho’s a little bit tight in his thigh but we think that
will resolve itself and apart from that it’s what you know.”

The
Manager also gave an update over long term injury victim Michael
Johnson as he looks to step up his battle against the abdominal
problems that have hampered his season.

He said: “Michael went to
have injections in his hips this week just to reduce the tightness he
has in his hip flexors so we’ll give him a couple more days for that to
settle down and hopefully he can start progressing.”
