Ladies New Year Get Fit classes with MCFC

Women across Manchester have the opportunity to kick start the New Year and take part in weekly ‘Get Fit’ sessions at Sporting Edge, Openshaw.

Funding from the Football Foundation will allow City in the Community’s initiative Getting Manchester Moving, to put on the health sessions.

Women as young as 14 can take part in the classes, in a bid to include as many groups as possible – mums; daughters; nieces; friends. Beginners are welcome, as the class will be low impact.

Health checks, such as blood pressure, will be offered on a regular basis to help monitor the fitness of participants. NHS health trainers will also be on hand to offer advice about healthy eating and on topics such as the effects of smoking and alcohol intake.

Sporting Edge is the community and sports centre in Higher Openshaw, it is a Barclays Spaces for Sport facility with a large modern sports hall, floodlit outdoor pitches, separate male / female changing rooms with showers and lockers for adults and children, fully accessible shower and toilet facilities and a new community room. Car parking is on site and there is a helpful, friendly staff team.

Getting Manchester Moving is a unique partnership between Manchester City Football Club, Manchester Public Health Development Service and Manchester City Council.

The Football Foundation is the UK’s largest sports charity funded by the Premier League, The Football Association, Sport England and the Government. Their mission is to improve facilities, create opportunities and build communities throughout England.

The Get Fit sessions will be held on a weekly basis and start on Thursday 8th January, 5.00pm – 6.00pm at Sporting Edge, Higher Openshaw. For more information about Getting Manchester Moving activities or to book your place on the course please contact City in the Community on 0161 438 7711.
