Manager targets the top half of the table

Mark Hughes is targeting a win over Newcastle tonight that will kick-start a push up the Barclays Premier League table for City.

Two
wins and a draw in the last three league games have propelled the Blues
into 12th place, but the congestion in the bottom half means that we
are still only four points in front of the bottom four clubs, separated
by goal difference.

But with the early kick off at Stoke on
Saturday taken into the equation, the Manager knows that City have the
chance to move away from the pack ahead of the rest.

"Tonight is
a big game for us," he acknowledges. "They will be coming to address
their little bit of a lack of form over recent weeks but I'm sure they
will look to be positive. But we're at home, and we're unbeaten in
three in the Premier League so we are looking to add to that.

"They
had a decent period when Joe first came in, and he really steadied the
ship. Recently they have had some poorer results, but I think that's
due to the injuries they have had. We have to look to play well against
them and get the three points that we are looking for, but Newcastle
are always a difficult side to go up against. Give them any
encouragement and they have the quality in the side that can hurt you,
so we must not allow that to happen.

"If we can get a couple of
wins under our belt then we can be in the top 10 at the weekend before
anybody else kicks off. That's the aim, we're making steady progress
and we all feel in the second half of the season that we will be
stronger."

Recent signings Craig Bellamy and Nigel de Jong are also very much in Mark's thoughts and of the pair he adds:

"We're taking a look at how they do in training, and certainly they would be in my thoughts for the game against Newcastle."

**Supporters are reminded that tickets for tonight's game are still available to buy online until 4pm this afternoon**
