Craig Bellamy, Scott Parker, Roque Santa Cruz and Mario Gomez are just some of the names that have been linked to Manchester City in recent weeks as manager Mark Hughes desperately plays for time at the helm of the club.
Yesterday the club announced they had secured the services of Wayne Bridge from fellow Premier League side Chelsea, and the signing is certain to sure up the rocky City defence.
However, Hughes has reiterated his desire to bring in more new faces to the City of Manchester Stadium, with more defenders and strikers set to make big money moves to Eastlands.
Since the deadline day signing of Brazilian star Robinho last summer, it was thought that City would be aiming to make big name signings during this transfer window, but Hughes has stated that a major club transformation will not happen overnight, and seems set to buy decent established Premier League stars to guide the team through this tough season.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Hughes said, "We need more players. We have brought Wayne Bridge to the club but maybe we need five more to complement the ones we have.
"Bringing players in during January is not easy but it is evident to everybody that number is probably the minimum we need.
"I recognise some of the players we would like to bring in are maybe unobtainable. But it is early yet and we will pursue targets we think will help us."
