Prize winners pleased with Thomas Cook awards

The first team Thomas Cook Players of the Month for November and December have given us their reaction to receiving the awards at the City of Manchester Stadium this afternoon.

Selected by a panel of local journalists, Stephen Ireland’s fine run of form, coupled with vital goals saw him take the November prize.

Speaking at the event, held in the Boardroom Suite at CoMS, the 22-year-old told us: “It means a lot and sometimes people might think it doesn’t but it certainly does.

“It’s going to go straight back to my house and sit next to the other one [from earlier this season].

“I need to collect as many as I can because that shows the progress that I’m making.”

December’s winner was Vincent Kompany, who has settled in to life at City and in the Barclays Premier League with no problems at all and as the panel stated could have won the award sooner, if it wasn’t for the form of fellow midfielder Ireland.

On collecting his award the former Hamburg man admitted: “Well it’s a pleasure to win the award. It was not really something I was expecting or even aware of the fact that there was this Player of the Month trophy.

“I’m more a player for the team, so all the other players in the team can win this award every single month and I don’t have a problem, as long as we win games and my hard work is rewarded by their goals. That’s what is most important for me.”
