Scott Parker & Roque Santa Cruz To Join Manchester City Soon

Manchester City are set to sign Scott Parker and the long-courted Roque Santa Cruz very shortly, perhaps within the next 48 hours, reports in England suggest.

Cash-laden City are close to finalising a deal for West Ham United midfielder Parker, who is expected to agree personal terms very soon, and the England international's purchase will take Mark Hughes's spending to over £100 million in just the seven months since his appointment.

The Citizens have also made a breakthrough in their attempts to entice Santa Cruz away from Blackburn Rovers. The Guardian reports that City will make a one-off £18 million payment to Rovers, and include Israeli international Tal Ben Haim as part of the deal, allowing the defender to link up with his former manager at Bolton, Sam Allardyce.

That is unlikely to be the last of City's spending. They are also expected to make moves for Craig Bellamy of West Ham, Jermain Defoe of Portsmouth, Arsenal's Kolo Touré and the Newcastle United goalkeeper Shay Given, though none of those bids is entirely straightforward.

There should also be some departures from Eastlands over the coming days. Elano, who seems to have alienated everyone at the club, is attracting the interest of Lazio. City, in the wake of their desperate FA Cup exit at the hands of Championship bottom feeders Nottingham Forest, are encouraging this interest and a bid from the Italian side is expected at any time.
