from Paul Marshall, Ian Daly and Vladimir Weiss helped City to an
impressive 3-0 win over Newcastle in Tuesday night's Barclays Premier
Reserve league fixture.
The Blues dominated the game from the start
and applied pressure through a string of corners early on. The pressure
eventually told on 24 minutes, Weiss winning the ball in midfield and
feeding Marshall, who broke straight down the middle and lashed the
ball in with his left foot from 25 yards out.
Newcastle's
keeper was kept busy, and it was not a surprise when City doubled the
lead with five minutes to the break. Marshall's free kick from the
right found Ian Daly unmarked in the box, and from close range he made
no mistake to head home past Krul.
City picked up where the left
off after the break, with Ben Mee forcing a save early on. Weiss moved
into the box and shot wide following a couple of stepovers on 63
minutes.
Newcastle, whose most senior player Alan Smith was
substituted in the second half, could not force their way back in and
Weiss sealed the win with nine minutes left, beating one man, moving
into the box and then firing into the bottom left hand corner of the
net.
The next outing for the reserves will be the Senior Cup derby at the Regional Athletics Arena next Monday at 7.00pm.
