Hughes has responded to the fevered media speculation over possible
transfer deals from the last 48 hours by stating that City remains
interested in bringing new players to the Club.
When asked about the Blues’ interest in Kaka of AC Milan, the Manager said:
“It’s
been well documented that we have expressed an interest in signing the
player. Garry Cook and a number of other people went to Milan to get an
understanding of the situation involving the player, but to add any
more substance to that would be wrong. We are trying to concentrate on
any deals that we can get completed.
“To keep on speculating on
different players and different levels of investment is wrong. We just
need to concentrate on deals as and when they come to fruition.”
Responding
to questions over one particular piece of speculation over Kaka that
emanated from the Middle East on Thursday morning, Mark stated:
“I
saw those reports. You have to bear in mind that the people involved
when given a platform seem to come out with these kinds of stories.
They do not represent the owner, Sheikh Mansour, or the Chairman
Khaldoon al Mubarak. They should not be given the platform to say what
they have said, because what has come out this morning is completely
untrue.”
On the ambitions of the Club’s owners to bring top-quality players to City, Mark added:
“The
owners made their intentions clear from the outset. They want the club
to progress and make it have a strong presence in world football.
That’s going to take some time but we are trying to set those wheels in
motion.
