Bellamy bid turned down?
The Daily Mirror say...
'West Ham tell Manchester City it will take 'extraordinary bid' to land stars'
West Ham technical director Gianluca Nani has told Manchester City they will have to make an "extraordinary bid" to land Craig Bellamy, Matthew Upson and Scott Parker.
City boss Mark Hughes had a new £9.5million bid for Welsh international Bellamy yesterday knocked back by West Ham, who have also turned down a £12m offer from Tottenham.
Despite being cash-strapped the Hammers could want as much as £15m for each player.
The Daily Telegraph add...
'West Ham reject second Man City offer for Craig Bellamy'
Mark Hughes has failed with a £9.5 million bid for West Ham striker Craig Bellamy as he continues to struggle to bring players to Manchester City this month.
Having had a £16 million offer for Blackburn's Roque Santa Cruz rejected last week, Hughes, who recently failed with a joint bid for Bellamy and West Ham team-mate Scott Parker, has had a further offer for the Welshman rebuffed. Like Santa Cruz, Bellamy played under Hughes during his spell at Blackburn and was also a key man during the City manager's spell in charge of Wales.
Hughes believes that Santa Cruz and Bellamy are the answer to his problems in the striker position and is unlikely to be put off by a second rejection from the Hammers who, having stated that manager Gianfranco Zola will not be forced to sell players, will face a backlash from supporters if the forward is allowed to leave.
Bellamy, 29, is beginning to put sustained injury problems behind him and has scored four goals in his last five appearances for the Upton Park club.
Despite having limitless funds at their disposal, City are determined not to pay over the odds for their targets and seem unlikely to put in offers that will "blow away" other clubs, which Sam Allardyce has claimed is what will be required for him to part with Santa Cruz.
Hughes has been looking forward to this month since the Abu Dhabi United Group's takeover on Sept 1, but even though his team are struggling at the wrong end of the table, Wayne Bridge, who signed in a £12-million deal from Chelsea last week, has been the only arrival in almost a fortnight since the transfer-window opened.
Meanwhile, the Daily Express bring us some 'sensational' news...
'CITY LAUNCH SENSATIONAL KAKA SWOOP'
MANCHESTER CITY have sent a high-powered delegation to Milan to try to secure a stunning deal for Brazilian superstar Kaka.
Chief executive Gary Cook and chief operating officer Paul Aldridge have been dispatched to Italy to open negotiations with AC Milan over what would be a world-record swoop for the attacking midfielder.
It is understood City are prepared to wait until the summer to land Kaka if they can get Milan to part with him, but want to do business now.
City’s money-flushed Abu Dhabi owners are determined to land a showpiece signing. So far they have recruited only Wayne Bridge from Chelsea in the transfer window.
Kaka could command wages of about £200,000 a week at Eastlands – making him the highest-paid player on the planet – and close friend Robinho is trying to persuade him to join City.
And finally, the Daily Mail tell us...
'Bayern Munich boss Klinsmann saddened by Podolski's lack of fight for a place in the team'
Out-of-favour Bayern Munich striker Lukas Podolski, set to leave the Bundesliga champions at the end of the season, has not shown enough determination to earn regular selection, says coach Jurgen Klinsmann.
Podolski, who has been a target for Tottenham and Manchester City during the current transfer window, joined Bayern in 2006 but has this year largely been left on the bench behind regular starters Luca Toni and Miroslav Klose.
Podolski, who had a superb 2006 World Cup under Klinsmann and has continued to score goals for the national side, has said he wants to leave, with his former club Cologne the most likely destination.
The addition of striker Landon Donovan, on loan from the Los Angeles Galaxy and the signing of Croatian international Ivica Olic, who will join Bayern from next season, has further hampered Podolski's hopes of a successful future at the Munich club.
'It hurts to see a special talent who just stops and does not progress because he cannot deal with the situation of having two players in front of him,' Klinsmann told Bayern's website.
'I would have hoped he had some anger, which he would express in his game and he would say to himself: 'I will show them what I have got', Klinsmann said.
'Bayern is a club where it is either or. Either a player faces the challenge and says 'I will fight my way into the team'...or it is better to change your environment.'
Bayern are in talks with Cologne and hope to agree a deal by the end of the month, Bayern manager Uli Hoeness said last week.
