"Kaka D-day"
by Martin Blackburn
MARK HUGHES has told Manchester City to sign Kaka now or risk missing out on him.
Executive
chairman Garry Cook and City officials are due to sit down with the
Brazilian’s father Bosco Leite and AC Milan vice-president Adriano
Galliani in Italy today as they step up their £91million pursuit of the
Brazilian.
The deal, with wages and add-ons, could still reach as much as £243m.
Real Madrid have emerged as possible rivals in the chase for the superstar.
But they are not in a position to make a move until the summer, following last week’s exit of club president Ramon Calderon.
So
Sparky knows it could be now or never for City and is hoping a new
world record transfer deal can be done and dusted in the next two
weeks.
Hughes said: “It may be that in the future a deal to
bring Kaka to Manchester City will never present itself again. So when
it does, you have to follow it through.
“You have to react quickly when the opportunity comes to acquire a player of that standard.
"You can’t hang about and think we’ll wait until the next window.
“If
we can do it, we feel it would be fantastic for this club. But there
are a lot of things to be addressed before we get there.”
City
insist they have yet to get to the stage where they are discussing
wages with Kaka — despite reports he could earn £500,000 a week.
The transfer fee is also set to be much less than the £108m reported in Italy and more like £91m.
Sparky
added: “I’m disappointed with some of the things said. They stem from
wild speculation about what the final figure will be and how much the
boy will earn.
“People are plucking numbers from the sky, doubling them and adding a zero.”

"Get Kaka now"
MARK HUGHES has warned Manchester City’s money men: We must sign Kaka in the next few days.
High-ranking
City officials are due to meet the Brazilian star’s father in Milan
today in an attempt to accelerate his move to Eastlands for a world
record £107m.
Although Hughes has labelled the deal “complex”,
the City boss is worried he could miss out on Kaka if the club fail to
cement the deal before the transfer window closes in two weeks’ time.
Real
Madrid have entered the race for the former World Player of the Year,
but the Spanish giants will not move for Kaka until the summer after an
election takes place to replace Ramon Calderon as president.
That
has left Hughes insisting that City must seal the deal quickly. Sparky
said: “It maybe that in the future a deal to bring Kaka to Manchester
City will never present itself again, so when it does, you have to
follow it through.
“Timescales go out of the window when you are
trying to do deals for players. You have to react quickly when the
opportunity comes to acquire a player of that standard.
“We look
at Kaka and it works for us. It works for me, it works for the club
from a business point of view and we’ll try and make it happen.”
Kaka
helped AC Milan defeat Fiorentina 1-0 on Saturday night, but the match
was overshadowed by protests from home fans angry about the possible
sale of their hero.
Milan general manager Adriano Galliani claims the club will NOT replace the midfielder if he leaves.
“There are no replacements for Kaka because he is unique,” said Galliani.
“However, the future of Kaka is not already set in stone. We have to evaluate, think hard and decide.”
City’s executive chairman Garry Cooke has already opened talks with Milan.
And he’s due to return to Italy today to meet Kaka’s father, who acts as one of the player’s chief advisors.

"Window watch: Craig Bellamy"
Manchester
City are expected to announce today that they have reached an agreement
with West Ham United to buy Craig Bellamy for £12 million after
Tottenham Hotspur admitted defeat in their bid for the Wales striker
last night. Bellamy was left out of the West Ham squad for the 3-1
victory against Fulham yesterday after his wish to speak to Tottenham
was refused on Friday.
Bellamy would be the second arrival at
the City of Manchester Stadium this month after they signed Wayne
Bridge, the left back, from Chelsea, also for £12 million.
Bellamy
has acknowledged that West Ham have been willing to sell him in an
attempt to reduce their bank overdraft. He accepted that but believed
that he had a verbal agreement with West Ham to talk to any club
bidding more than £10 million and was angered when he was not given
permission to talk to Tottenham last week when they offered an initial
£10 million, rising by £2 million on appearances.
West Ham
turned down the offer, in part, because they did not want to sell to
their London rivals, but also they want an initial £12 million transfer
fee. West Ham have preferred that Bellamy joins City and the player,
who often returns to his family home in Cardiff, is understood to be
happy to move to City.
player, the rest of us have no chance,” Harry Redknapp, the Tottenham
manager, said. “They outbid and out-pay. It is difficult to get him
now.”
