Hughes prepares for final week of window

The Daily Mail say...

'New deal for Steve Harper clears Shay Given's Newcastle exit path to Manchester City'

Newcastle
keeper Steve Harper has agreed a new deal to stay at St James' Park,
paving the way for Shay Given's £8million move to Manchester City.

Given
has made no secret of his desire to leave and while Harper, 33, is on
hand, Newcastle are also interested in David James of Portsmouth.

City
have offered £6m for Given but Newcastle want more money or a
player-plus cash package to include midfielder Michael Johnson or
defender Nedum Onuoha.

Newcastle's veteran midfielder Nicky Butt is also set to agree a new deal, keeping him at the club for another year.

The Daily Mirror ask...

'Did you miss me?'

ROBINHO flew into Manchester Airport yesterday to face the music after his controversial visit to Brazil.

The
£32million star went awol last week, attending to 'family matters' back
home while his Manchester City team-mates sweated at a training camp in
Tenerife.

Boss Mark Hughes is set to fine him two weeks' wages.

And finally, the Mirror tell us...

'FERGIE GETS SHOCKED...AND SOCKED'

SIR
ALEX FERGUSON was left with an even redder face than usual during a
tour of a school in Gorton, Manchester with Foreign Secretary David
Miliband last week.

First one scallywag handeded embarrassed
Fergie a mobile phone displaying an animation of his rival Rafa Benitez
in a rather compromising position.

Then Miliband pointed out to the kids that Sir Alex was wearing socks in a fetching shade of Manchester City blue.
