Cup tie too close to call, says Jim

Jim Cassell sees tonight’s FA Youth Cup tie as a match-up against a side with many similarities to City.

The
young Blues, currently runaway leaders of Premier Academy League group
C, face a talented Newcastle team second in their own group, just
behind local rivals Sunderland.

With Newcastle’s senior side now
being regularly supplied by Academy products, Jim is fully aware of the
potential of tonight’s opponents, and he tells us:

“We saw
them in the last round at QPR, and needless to say we were very
impressed with their 3-1 win. They are well organised and strive to
play good football, but they also defend for their lives when needed.

“Both
clubs know that a very good team is going to go out of the competition
tonight, and we hope that it will be our night. They look like an
excellent team, they are top of their league as we are in ours, they
have some good individual players and I hope it is going to be a great
advert for youth football.

“Newcastle will always produce players
because if the way the game is in that part of the world. Middlesbrough
have a great record in youth football, Sunderland are well organised
and so are Newcastle. I think Newcastle boys love to play for their
club, as do the boys we have from Manchester.”

Newcastle’s
youngsters are coached by Richard Money, City’s first team coach when
Frank Clark was manager here in the 1990s, and Jim is looking forward
to locking horns with someone he has known for many years.

Jim
continues, “I know Richard well, and I know his teams will always be
well organised and well disciplined. He has an excellent philosophy on
the game, tonight will be tough and competitive. But win, lose or draw
we will shake hands at the end and wish whoever has come out on top
good luck.

“I know Newcastle elected not to play last weekend, as
you are allowed to, but we felt we were going to keep our rhythm by
having a game. Tonight it will be about which set of players relax and
play to the best of their ability, but I think it’s too close to call.”

Mark
Hughes has wished the lads luck as well, saying: “Getting into the next
round would  be a fantastic feather in the cap of Jim and everyone at
Platt Lane. We support each other very well and try to bring more
players through. Adam Clayton and Vladimir Weiss have been involved at
first team level , so that continuation of Academy products coming
through is still there.

“Keiran Trippier & Andrew Tutte have
been up on a number of occasions and impressed with their qualities, so
they will be  back at Carrington regularly from now until the end of
the season. Like the guys new to the Premier League, they need to be
around senior players to learn as soon as possible.”

Kick off is at 7.00pm at the City of Manchester Stadium. Admission will be 3.00 adults, £1.00 concessions from main box office
