Dunne and Shay Given both completed 90 minutes for the Republic of
Ireland in their 2-1 victory over Georgia in a vital World Cup
qualifier.
The Irish trailed most of the game after Georgia scored
in the first minute, and Given made an important save only three
minutes after Georgia’s goal to stop them taking an early two goal
lead. It was not until late in the match when a controversial Robbie
Keane penalty and header sealed the win and sending them top of their
group.
Shaun Wright-Phillips played the full 90 minutes for
England friendly against Spain in Seville, while Wayne Bridge and Joe
Hart remained on the subs bench. Shaun took a knock in the first half
but recovered to finish the game, eventually creating one of England’s
best chances in the second half.
Craig Bellamy recovered from a
swollen knee mid week to captain this team and earn his 55th cap for
Wales starting upfront alongside his new Manchester City team mate Ched
Evans. Both players were substituted just after half time with Wales
eventually losing 1-0 to Poland, to a goal in the 80th minute.
Vincent
Kompany, who usually plays in defence for his national team, was forced
out of last night’s clash with Slovenia with a toe injury picked up in
training earlier in the week. However a goal in each half from ex-City
defender Daniel van Buyten earned Belgium the win.
Elsewhere
Nigel de Jong played the first 60 minutes of Holland’s 1-1 draw away to
Tunisia and Gelson Fernandes’ Switzerland were held to a 1-1 draw in
Geneva against Bulgaria.
Ryan McGivern didn’t feature in Northern Ireland’s comfortable 3-0 win away to San Marino.
