The
England Under 21 international told us after the game: “I think we
should have really come away with the three points, especially given
the fact we played against 10-men for so long, so it was quite
disappointing.”
Until his red card for a foul on Shaun
Wright-Phillips late in the first half, Rory Delap had been the hosts’
main threat with his trademark throw-ins, and Onuoha admitted the
aerial bombardment and Stoke's physical approach does pose its problems.
He
added: “It was difficult, but then at the same time we dealt with it at
home and they didn’t really create a lot from it here, it was just a
case of us unfortunately not being able to score the goals today.
“We’ve
played in games like this one before and I think with the players we
have in the team now, the strength and height we have is in the back
four, and everything else in front of that is based on skill and
technique.
“A lot of the teams we play against just try and put
four defenders there and four midfielders there and it’s up to us to
try and break them down.
“Even if Stoke hadn’t have been a man
down they would have played the same way and unfortunately we just
couldn’t break them down.”
